Valerie Dean

I developed my style of painting in Belgium, where I studied art for the last six of the 27 years I lived there and had exhibitions in and around Brussels.

Since coming back to England I have become involved in the Kent art scene and exhibit mainly in Francis Iles gallery, Rochester and the Horsebridge, Whitstable. I am a member of the Society of Catholic Artists and participated in Commission4Mission, whose purpose was to put religious artworks in churches. One of my paintings was chosen for the cover of 'Called' by Revd Barbara Cawthorne Crafton, an American Episcopalian minister.

I was pleased that my Stations of the Cross were used at St Martin in the Fields, London, during Holy Week in 2018. I am very happy to lend them as a resource but would also be willing to donate them to a church that could use them.

I work in acrylics and my technique is usually to put materials and colours on canvas to see what emerges. It is a dialogue between me and my materials.

I continue to be more inspired by religious themes than others, although not exclusively.
